7th season has began

Installing big Rybachinskaya trap

7^th ringing season on Baikal bird ringing station started on the 16^th of April. 17^th of April we got first birds and the first of the first was Siberian Accentor (Prunella montanella). Others are: White Wagtail (Motacilla alba), Rustic Bunting (Emberiza rustica), Pallas’s Reed Bunting (Emberiza pallasi), Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita).

Snow cover on the 16th of April. Now all snow is melted and free of ice water on Baikal appeared

18^th of April our first volunteer Jesus from Spain came. While being here, he already found bear tracks, made video of fox and hair by motion cameras, registered many arrived migrants as Masked Wagtail (Motacilla personata), Citrine Wagtail (Motacilla citreola), Pied Wheatear (Oenanthe pleschanka) and others, made good photo of Ural Owl (Strix uralensis) and other birds.

Big Rybachinskaya trap started it’s work after six days of preparations. For installing it we need two days but we decided to repair the cage in the end of the trap so this was long work. And Big Trap started it’s duty on the 26-th of April. First bird caught in Big Trap was Red-throated Thrush (Turdus ruficollis).
